Our program started in 1995 with one pharmacy practice resident. We have then since grown to ten residents, making us the largest pharmacy residency program in New England.
Over the years, we have made a significant impact on patient care by becoming an integral part of the medical teams and being a part of the medical floors. We are the only pharmacy residency program in the state that provides a 24-hour in-house PharmD on-call program. We initiated a pharmacist run Anticoagulation Service and are part of an AMI Care Team. We have clinical specialty residents, who have positions because we have shown the worth of training pharmacy specialists. We have a medication safety residency program, acknowledging that there is a need for pharmacists with an understanding of methods to improve patient outcomes. As a result, our programs have been able to grow at an impressive rate.
In 2005, documented pharmacist interventions saved the institution over $2.2 million. We have shown our worth as pharmacists to the hospital, and as a result, the hospital continues to support our residency program and our pharmacy department.
We strive for excellence in the training of pharmacy residents, providing a positive and rewarding learning experience. Many past residents have stayed on with our institution and now serve as clinical specialists and preceptors. Our program has created residency graduates who have gone on to positions where their residency training has paved their career pathway. Some have gone on to academia, others to become residency preceptors at other institutions. Take a look at our past residents page to see where they are now.
